Students have the opportunity throughout the year to participate in a number of interschool competitions with their peers from other small schools in the district. These include athletics, swimming, cross country, and ballgames. Maximum involvement by all students is encouraged.

As swimming is part of the Physical Education Program during Term 4, all children are expected to participate. A note advising the reason for non-participation should be handed to the teacher. Children participate in the Small Schools Swimming Carnival in Term 4.

From time to time, children are taken on excursions as part of the normal school program, i.e. camps, sporting teams, bus trips etc. No excursion from the school will be undertaken, unless due notice has been given to parents and a permission form has been received by the school.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in school camps. This is either a 'whole school' camp, or sometimes there is an 'upper school' camp and the 'lower school' will attend an excursion with a sleepover at school. This depends upon the class dynamics of the year.

Sporting Schools/Active After School Communities

Grandchester State School participates in the Sporting Schools Program (what used to be called Active After School Communities). This is offered for 3 terms per year, and a different activity is undertaken once a week, either during or after school, for a 5-6 week period. These activities are offered to children from Prep - Year 6, depending on the suitability of the activity. Some activities are only suitable for older students.
